A jar of fruit harvest. Last of the 2014 peaches

30 May 20140530-072042-26442474.jpg

I was wondering when these were going to ripen but they ended up being crunch tasty peaches this year instead of soft ones. Which was actually awesome as they didn’t fall off and rot when neglected for a week or so 😉

Small but tasty. Definitely not tart, even hubby liked them this year. I wonder what makes them soft and juicy some years and other years like this batch….

Some thing to do with weather… I love natures variety but am sad I have to wait a whole year to sample more!

All these we’re from container trees/plants. Seems like a got fewer blueberries this year. Southmoon definitely produces tastier larger berries. Misty is tasty too but some are small but seems to have a longer fruiting season.

Here’s another batch of peaches from earlier in the week.

Another jar of paler peaches from earlier in the year. These are from the tropic prince tree. Did not taste too good. Very tart and softer. Occasional juicy one. These were falling off the tree back in April so it picked them all.

2014 Couple of small peaches ready to eat and some brutal thinning.

Just checking which tree is which….these peaches are tropic princes….they seem to have flowered first before the tropic beauty…which is actually different from previous years! Usually they’re pretty close to each other but the Tropic Prince is ready to eat and the tropic beauty is only now just ready for thinning.

New one gallon trees, just repotted. My peach trees have blossomed and are in the middle of fruiti right now and this guy seems to be just coming out of dormancy so I will get a fre more fruit later in the season. Plus, nectarines vs peaches? No fuzz!

And here’s the little one gallon olive tree….

2013 New pink lemonade blueberry – Winter greens and flowering fruit in containers – kale, Swiss Chard, flowering peach and pink blueberries

24 Nov

Peach is not flowering so much this year. Hopefully I will get some bigger peaches as there’s fewer flowers.
Swiss chard is so colorful! I grew these along with the kale from seed.

The lighter coloured leaved blueberry is a new Pink lemonade blueberry. So curious to see how these will taste.

Harvest Monday

7 May

Pulled up almost all my carrots. They’re getting stringy roots off the main carrot so probably means its done growing. something quite satisfying a out pulling up carrots, you never know how big it will be and what shape!

The yellows and oranges are easy to grow. The reds are tougher. Although all my seeds are a couple of years old.

So colourful!

And I had to harvest all my mustard greens as they were beginning to flower. So many leaves! I washed and chopped them up and stirfried them with olive oil, garlic and salt. Simple. Added a bit oyster sauce for extra flavour.
