Tiny Meyer lemon tree with overloaded branch. What to do?

18 May

Can’t bear to thin these guys but surely there will not be a good outcome?!

Spaghetti Squash succumb to proceed mildew :(

18 May

Here’s what I got! Unfortunately may grey has brought too much dewy foggy weather.
Wonder how much flesh are in these little ones… Some are still soft skinned. So hopefully they will harden up?!

Pollinated spaghetti squash!

20 Apr

There are at least three babies growing 🙂 I hand pollinated them early in the morning earlier this week. I hope they make it! Considering I hav 6 plants, hopefully I can have at least 6 squashes…

Dry cure olives 3 weeks later

13 Nov

Was surprised to see the dry curing olive jar with moist salt and a fluid level.
Did all that fluid come from the olives? Or did water enter the jar from the atmosphere? It’s a mystery 🙂 guess I should’ve weighed the jar first!

As you can see they’re all wrinkly!! We tasted one, surprisingly no salty but still have a bitter taste and quite enjoyable but probably needs a bit longer to get more bitterness out.
Unlike any bought olive I have ever tasted!!
So I ran out of rock kosher salt and used a combo of the salt I have…

The pink bamboo salt (looks like brown sugar!) has an interesting taste, I am hoping it doesn’t affect the final product. Also some regular sea salt too.
Since they’re quite dehydrated, it barely needed a 1/3 jar of salt to cover.

Loads of homegrown tomatoes

24 Jun

all shapes and sizes! I cheated this year and bought a couple mixed toms six pack seedlings from Home Depot. Here they are all grown up!!

Since I’m low carbing right now, I will have to limit myself and my lucky neighbours will win out!

I growed these! Tango mandarins and Meyer Lemon. February 2015 already?!

12 Feb

Yay, first decent fruit from my trees. I have to say I have been watering and caring for this tango mandarin for many years and only now I can say it is producing edible fruit and quite a few for a small tree.

The Meyer lemon tree I have only had for a year. So impressed I get one big fat juicy lemon.

Hope I have many more happy citrus years to come.

End of April 2014 update.

1 May

Surprisingly, my neglected garden isn’t as bountiful as it was when I tended to it more. Peaches are small, blueberries are fewer…

Still, the few I get taste good.

My pineapple guava is flowering once again, I think last year it didn’t do so much.

And excitingly, my olive tree is flowering. The flowers are tiny! I just bought this little tree about a month or two ago.

Finally, my fennel is starting to look like fennel. Boy these take a long time to grow but are very pretty plants.
