A jar of fruit harvest. Last of the 2014 peaches

30 May 20140530-072042-26442474.jpg

I was wondering when these were going to ripen but they ended up being crunch tasty peaches this year instead of soft ones. Which was actually awesome as they didn’t fall off and rot when neglected for a week or so 😉

Small but tasty. Definitely not tart, even hubby liked them this year. I wonder what makes them soft and juicy some years and other years like this batch….

Some thing to do with weather… I love natures variety but am sad I have to wait a whole year to sample more!

All these we’re from container trees/plants. Seems like a got fewer blueberries this year. Southmoon definitely produces tastier larger berries. Misty is tasty too but some are small but seems to have a longer fruiting season.

Here’s another batch of peaches from earlier in the week.

Another jar of paler peaches from earlier in the year. These are from the tropic prince tree. Did not taste too good. Very tart and softer. Occasional juicy one. These were falling off the tree back in April so it picked them all.

2014 Couple of small peaches ready to eat and some brutal thinning.

Just checking which tree is which….these peaches are tropic princes….they seem to have flowered first before the tropic beauty…which is actually different from previous years! Usually they’re pretty close to each other but the Tropic Prince is ready to eat and the tropic beauty is only now just ready for thinning.

These are all separate pickings. Some handfuls of blueberries didn’t make it back for photographing 🙂 so tasty! Still a few more on the plant left.

2013 peaches.

Slap wrist, I’ve been neglecting all my green babies recently and these peaches are so small as I didn’t thin then out properly. And I hadn’t watered in a week so a few wrinkled and fell off! What a shame – shame on me!

I love picking a few ripe peaches everyday before work/school. Uploading pix as a record of how much I get. I guess I can count them… Or post pics of every harvest 🙂

Harvest Monday

7 May

Pulled up almost all my carrots. They’re getting stringy roots off the main carrot so probably means its done growing. something quite satisfying a out pulling up carrots, you never know how big it will be and what shape!

The yellows and oranges are easy to grow. The reds are tougher. Although all my seeds are a couple of years old.

So colourful!

And I had to harvest all my mustard greens as they were beginning to flower. So many leaves! I washed and chopped them up and stirfried them with olive oil, garlic and salt. Simple. Added a bit oyster sauce for extra flavour.

Another handful of tropic prince bland peaches and my first homegrown artichokes! Will write a separate entry for those 🙂

Here’s the bigger and tastier tropic beauty peaches.

Tropic Prince Peach ripe already

4 May

My little peaches are all blushing and losing all their greeness and after giving them a light squeeze, I guess they were ready for harvest.
So soon. And so small! Luckily the stones were tiny, about the size of a marble.

Tasted just Ok. Kinda bland.

How can I make them sweeter???
